COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- In the wake of the coronavirus, stores across the country are experiencing shortages in cleaning supplies, such as hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes. Many users on social media having been offering DIY's to help with the shortage, but Tito's Vodka is warning Twitter users not to use their product for hand sanitizer.
For the past 24 hours, the Austin-based company has been telling fans that their vodka does not contain enough alcohol to fend off germs.
The company’s social media team, commendably, has identified tweets suggesting the use of Tito’s in homemade hand sanitizer recipes and replied with recommendations Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to Dallas News.
“Per the CDC, hand sanitizer needs to contain at least 60% alcohol. Tito’s Handmade Vodka is 40% alcohol, and therefore does not meet the current recommendation of the CDC,” Tito’s Vodka tweeted.
