New video from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory shows a partial solar eclipse from space.

The images show the moon passing in front of the sun.

According to NASA, the eclipse lasted about an hour, with the moon covering approximately 59 percent of the sun's surface at the peak of its journey.

"The moon’s shadow obstructs SDO’s otherwise constant view of the sun, and the shadow’s edge is sharp and distinct, since the moon has no atmosphere which would distort sunlight," NASA's website reports.
